About the role

In this role, your principal task is to accompany Sunday services and our weekly Wednesday evening Bread for the World service, along with associated rehearsals. You will also play for other festival services at Christmas and Easter. A creative interest and enthusiasm in liturgy – both traditional and new – is essential.

 

Working at St Martin’s

-        Based at - St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, London.

-        Working pattern - 16 hours per week (approximately), Mondays, Wednesday and Sunday, plus concerts, tours, broadcasts and other special events

-        Salary - £12,000 plus Workplace Pension (£30,000 FTE)

-        Term - two years from appointment

-        Holiday entitlement - paid 25 holidays plus eight bank holidays, pro rata

-        Notice period - 1 month

 

Job Profile

Regular pattern of organ and piano accompaniment

Sundays

-        Organ accompaniment of 10.00 am Parish Eucharist, with prior rehearsal (with the Choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields, St Martin’s Community Choir or a soloist)

-        Piano accompaniment of lunchtime Children’s Voices rehearsal

-        Organ accompaniment of 5.00 pm Choral Evensong, with prior rehearsal (with the Choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields, another St Martin’s choral ensemble, or a visiting choir) Occasionally this service takes a different format e.g. Nine lessons and carols, Patronal Festival

-        Piano accompaniment of 7.00 pm Sacred Space service (once a month), with prior rehearsal (with a soloist and instrumentalists)

 

Mondays

-        9.15 – 10.00 am Attendance at weekly clergy meeting

-        10.00 – 11.00 am Attendance at weekly music team meeting

 

Wednesdays

-        Piano accompaniment of 6.30 pm Bread for the World informal Eucharist, with prior rehearsal (with the St Martin’s Choral Scholars, or another St Martin’s choral ensemble)

-        Piano accompaniment of 7.30 – 9.00 pm Choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields rehearsal

 

Other activities

  • To play on Holy and Feast Days outside the Sunday/Wednesday pattern, all with prior rehearsal:

- 6.30 pm Maundy Thursday service

- 10.00 am Good Friday All-Age Service

- 12.00 pm Good Friday Three Hours Service

- 1.30 pm Christmas Eve Crib Service

- 11.00 pm Christmas Eve Midnight Mass Service

- 10.00 am Christmas Morning Eucharist

  • To occasionally direct the Choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields, St Martin’s Community Choir and Children’s Voices as required by the Music Director
  • To occasionally accompany weddings, memorial services, and other Special Services, as required by the Music Director (additional remuneration will be offered)

Personal development and support

-        To attend music team meetings and other occasional meetings, as required

-        To attend internal and external training courses, as agreed with the Music Director

-        To undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required
