Travel information

CAR: The Cathedral is at the heart of Blackburn town centre and surrounded by convenient on-street car parks. Sat Nav users should use post code BB1 5AA.
BUS: From Blackburn Bus Station, walk along Ainsworth Street alongside the Market. Cross the road towards the Railway Station on Railway Road. The Cathedral is on the right.
TRAIN: From Blackburn Station walk towards the town centre across Cathedral Square. The Cathedral is a few yards further on.


There is no car or coach parking available on site, but coaches may pull up at the main entrance to discharge their passengers. There is a limited amount of disabled parking on site but it is necessary to pre-book it by contacting Pauline Rowe on 01254

Visitor Hours

The Cathedral is open half an hour before the act of worship which begins each day and closes after Evening Prayer or Evensong


No admission fee is charged.

Arranged visits

Guided Tours

Individuals wishing to visit the cathedral can download and print off a short guide to the building prior to visiting by visiting the cathedral website. On arrival, guide books may be purchased from the Welcome Desk.


Groups wishing to take a guided tour of the building (up to 90 minutes) may elect to focus on one or more of the following areas: The History of Blackburn Parish Church and Cathedral;the religious meaning of the building and its furnishings; works of art and objects of interest or curiosity in the building.It is also possible to take the meditative tour of building, “The Journey” (45 minutes or 65 minutes). To book a guided tour, please contact the Events Co-ordinator, Phil Hunwick or 01254 277439. On the first Tuesday of each month at 3.00pm there is also an Open Guided Tour for which no pre-booking is necessary.

Weekday Services: Morning Prayer 8.40am (Saturdays 9.00am)
Holy Communion is celebrated at the following times: Monday 12.30pm; Tuesday 7.30am; Wednesday 11.00am; Thursday 8.10am; Friday 12.30pm; Saturday 9.30am.
Evensong 5.15pm (3.30pm on Saturdays). The service is sung on most days (Monday to Friday) in term time.

9.00am Parish Communion, sung in term time by the Young People’s Choir
10.30am Cathedral Eucharist sung in term time by the Cathedral Choir
4.00pm Evensong sung in term time by the Cathedral Choir

    Gift Shop
    The Cathedral Gift Shop is accessed via the South Transept. It stocks a large selection of souvenirs, gifts, books, CDs and cards for all occasions and to suit the taste of every visitor. Open Tuesday-Saturday 10.30am - 2.30pm.

    Café Northcote at the Cathedral.
    This café opened in 2016 as part of the Cathedral’s major new building development. It is operated by the Michelin starred Northcote Restaurant Group.
    Café Northcote is open Monday to Saturday 8.00am to 5.00pm and Sunday 10.00am to 4.00pm.

    Modern toilet facilities including disabled are located in the crypt. There is also a disabled toilet upstairs in the Cathedral.

Facilities for disabled

    The main entrance to the Cathedral is fully wheelchair accessible and there is lift access to both the Crypt and Café Northcote. Toilet facilities for the disabled are located both in the Crypt and inside the main west door of the cathedral.
