Travel information

Bedford is centrally located and well served by the major road network including the M1 and A1. When using the M1 exit at J13 and then follow signs to Bedford via the A421. Coming from the A1, exit at the Black Cat roundabout and follow signs for Bedford via the A421. The town can also be reached from north or south from the A6 which runs through the centre of Bedford.

St Paul’s Church is a 10-minute walk from Bedford mainline station. Bedford is well served by Midland Mainline and Thameslink trains from London St Pancras and from Leicester, Derby and Sheffield to the north. There is a local branch line from Bletchley. The X5 coach service runs regularly to Bedford from Cambridge to the east and from Milton Keynes and Oxford to the west. The coach station is central and is a 5-minute walk away.


Bedford town centre has numerous pay and display car parks including River St, Allhallows and Lurke St. There is also on street pay and display parking along the nearby Embankment. A Park and Ride service which runs every 15 minutes operates from Elstow to the south of the town.

Sunday 2.00pm to 4.00pm

Closed on Bank Holidays except on those days where there are services.


Admission is free although we do ask that a donation of £2 be made to help us keep the church open every day.

Guided Tours

We regularly welcome visits from schools and other local groups. Guided tours of the church with our resident historian can also be booked in advance via the church office by calling 01234 340163.

We have a team of Church Welcomers and one will always be on duty when the church is open. They are available to make visitors feel welcome and answer general questions about the church.

8.00am Said Eucharist (BCP)
10.15 Parish Eucharist (All-Age Eucharist on the first Sunday of the month and Choral Eucharist on the third Sunday of the month).
5.30pm Evening Service (usually Choral Evensong or Sermon and Compline)

Weekday Services:
Morning and Evening Prayer: Monday to Saturday at 09.00am and 5.00pm
The Eucharist:
7.00pm Tuesday
12.00 Noon Wednesday
9.30am Friday
9.30am Saturday

The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) by appointment.

    St Paul’s hosts a cafe during the Tuesday lunchtime concert series at 1pm during term tim,e and also from 10am-3pm on Saturdays. Toilet facilities are available in the Narthex of the church. Please see our website for more information.

Facilities for disabled

    There is wheelchair access to the church and all main rooms as well as disabled toilet facilities. Large print orders of service are available.
