Travel information

BY CAR: Leicester Cathedral is accessible from Junction 21 of the M1, following signs for Leicester City Centre. The Cathedral is situated on Peacock Lane, off St Nicholas’ Circle.
BY TRAIN: There are good rail links to Leicester from Birmingham, Sheffield and London. The Cathedral is a 10-15 minute walk From Leicester city rail station, turning right out of the exit along Granby Street and Gallowtree Gate, before turning left at the Clock Tower.

Parking

There is some limited street parking available on the roads around the Cathedral, and there are long-stay car parks nearby at St Nicholas’ Circle NCP (next to the Holiday Inn) and at the Highcross Shopping Centre.
Coach parties can be dropped off and picked up on Peacock Lane.

Sunday: 8.30am – 6.15pm
Monday – Saturday: 8.00am – 6.00pm
Please note that services and other events arise each day and we invite our visitors to be sensitive to the other activities which are taking place.

Admission

Admission is free, but contributions towards running costs are requested (please use the Gift Aid envelopes provided so that we can reclaim tax).

Arranged visits

Guided Tours

Adult groups can enjoy a historical tour of Leicester Cathedral, lasting on average one hour. There is a small charge to be made. Details are available from our Bookings Manager.

School Visits

Our Education@Leicester Cathedral Team provide many educational packages tied into curriculum needs. These vary from days which open up stories in the bible, to revealing the history of the Cathedral and our patron saint to pilgrimages to help children move from primary to secondary school. Packages are also available for secondary schools include use of Breathe – a multi-sensory experience provoking questions on identity, belonging, ecology and spirituality. We have applied for the Learning outside the Classroom quality badge.

Self-led packages are also available but all school visits must take place with involvement from our team or our prepared materials. Full details are available on our website.

Amenities

    The Cathedral is available as a venue for concerts.

    The Cathedral’s Visitor Centre is situated just across the pathway from the West Doors, which contains a shop, and where coffee is served following the Sunday morning Eucharist.

    There are also toilet and baby changing facilities.

Facilities for disabled

    Wheelchair access is available at the South Door, and ramps are within the Cathedral building at strategic points. There are also disabled toilet facilities.
    A hearing loop is in use for services on Sundays and other major occasions for those with impaired hearing.
